A lot of the metal patio furniture available today is not galvanized and just has a layer of paint or lacquer over it.
My recommendation is to find a paint that is identical or as close as possible and do a little sanding and touch up as needed.
Keep the furniture covered or inside during the winter months or rust is sure to find a start. Clear lacquers are helpful also if your furniture is still in good condition as it provides another layer of protection.
Perhaps someone else has some experience in this area.
