Box Steps from House

We have removed a rotted deck that was elevated 36" off the ground to meet the height of the entry door and are replacing it with a paver patio that will be ground level for privacy (neighbors house is 12' away from end of deck) I would like to do a cascading box step leading out from the door down to the patio. For the pavers we are doing a base 6" of crushed stone and 1" of sand under the bricks. Do I need any additional footing under that for the steps?
