Deck Clearances Over A/C Units, Furnace Exhausts

by Mike

I'm replacing my old deck (12x12) with a (12x16).

With this extra 4 feet it will be over my A/C unit and also my furnace power venter. The bottom of the joists are 5 feet off the ground. The a/c unit will have about 3 feet of clearance while the power venter will have about 1 1/2 feet. Is this o.k.?

Clearance Above A/C Furnace
by: Editor - Rich Bergman

The clearance you have for your A/C seems safe at 3 feet. However it is hard to say about your furnace exhaust.

It may be fine but I am not an expert in heating . If I were you I would call your local heating contractor and they will know exactly that the recommended clearances are for both A/C units and furnace exhaust.

Any visitors who are knowledgeable about air conditioning units and furnace units and clearances for exhaust feel free to offer your thoughts.

I still contend that the simplest solution is a quick phone call to the guys who specialize in these matters.
